I Was Thinking of You Today…

Hearing the Divine in Everyday LifeBubble thought

I received a call last week from a man I hadn’t seen in almost 20 years; whose name I could not place and whose face I could not recall. He said “I was thinking of you today” when I drove by your old business (in Minnesota). He went on to share information that an old friend and co-worker of ours was in hospice care and he wanted to make sure we knew – we didn’t.

It took more than one effort to find our phone number but we’re really glad he did. That phone call gave us the opportunity to share thoughts and memories with our friend; for me to have a phone conversation and for my husband to see him in the hospital. The following morning our friend left this world for the next. What a gift to reconnect with him.

Though there is deep sadness in his passing, there is even more gratitude for the unfolding of that week. It all started with what could have been a passing thought; I was thinking of you today.” It could have ended there. Had he not followed the prompt to contact us, several lives would not be the same.

What a “coincidence” you might say, but I believe it’s more than that. I believe that the Divine offers us information all of the time; whether we recognize and respond to it is up to us. In reflecting on my own experience I can recall times when I have acted on those “passing thoughts;” when I have called someone I found myself thinking about, only to find out about a crisis in their lives. Or when I heard about something/someone several times from different sources and stepped out to make a wonderful connection.

I am also aware that my practice is not perfected. I wonder how many Sacred communications I miss in my flurry of mental activity, multi-tasking and to-do lists. I wonder how much more joy I could experience and bring to the lives of others with greater intention and attention. I wonder how the world would be different if we were all responding to the whispers of the Divine.

If this week’s exponential result of one man following a passing thought is any indication, I want to live in that world. I’m dedicated to creating it. I invite you to join me.
