Pausing to Savor the Moment

Let me be among the first to wish you a Happy New Year for 2015! This is traditionally a time when we begin to look ahead to the upcoming year; when we dream, set goals and make plans for achieving them. Some of us create vision boards to capture our intentions. Last year I offered a framework for a vision board that creates intentions in 6 areas of living (read more here).

Pause BreakI love the process of visioning, but this year before you do that, take time to appreciate your accomplishments in 2014. So often in life we move on to the “next thing” or the “next list” without allowing ourselves the satisfaction of “pausing to savor the moment.”

It’s important to celebrate what is finished and recognize the success you have had. Without this reflection you will lose the mental and emotional “fruits of your labor” and a great source of motivation for the future. So, thinking back over 2014:

  1. Write down your accomplishments, successes and “wins.” Make particular note of the unexpected ones.
  2. Make a list of what you are grateful for.
  3. Write down “lessons learned” in 2014.

When I take the time to do this I am often surprised at what I had glossed over, minimized or simply forgotten about as I moved on to the next project.

  1. Now that you have reflected and written, share it with someone you trust. It is powerful to have your success witnessed and recognized by another.
  2. Most importantly, tune into the emotion of your successes. Take the time to feel the satisfaction, pleasure, pride or relief as you consider each item on your list. Really let yourself take it in. This is where you lay down positive neuro-nets for future success.

When you have completed this process you will be ready to turn your sights toward the coming year; to identify what you want to let go of, what unfinished goals you will carry forward and what new realities you will create in 2015.

Here’s to savoring your moments of success,

   Pam
