A Meeting of Minds and more…
Last Saturday I had the opportunity to be with a group of “enlightened” entrepreneurs; people who seek to live out their spiritual calling through a conscious business model. This was not your typical business seminar to say the least. It was fun, it was engaging, it was soulful; it was exciting and scary all at the same time! It was ENLIVENING.
The chance to be in the presence of great minds and share in the exchange of ideas, visions, dreams and possibilities – to think outside the box – was exhilarating. But the experience was more than the meeting of minds. It was soul searching; fear facing; learning, laughter and tears. It was feeling the POWER of REAL CONNECTION with other human beings. That is the stuff of transformation.
I was reminded of what a gift we have to offer each other when we take the time to really “see” one another; to be fully present (no, there was no texting during our meeting!); and to risk real connection. What a gift indeed!
When was the last time that you remember having that kind of rich experience with others? Take a minute right now and think about it. Maybe it was on a family vacation, in a prayer group, a book club or with your hunting buddies. Can you see the faces of those that were there? Can you remember the feeling of connecting beyond your mind; with your heart and maybe even your soul? Remember how great you felt afterward? Makes you want more, doesn’t it?
I don’t know about you, but it’s easy for me to get so caught up in my schedule and “to-do” list that making time for real connection outside of work can go by the wayside. Sometimes it takes clear intention to contact people, make a plan, schedule the time and let go of everything else to really “be there.”
Other times its more about noticing the opportunities in the present; not just traveling through my day but pausing and really seeing people. Taking advantage of present moments for real connection.
Last Saturday’s reminder has inspired and challenged me to be more proactive in creating times for connection and more mindful about grasping those in front of me. I want to share that challenge with you. Join me in pursuing the Enlivening Power of Real Connection. Call someone that inspires you; plan a meeting of your “like minds;” slow down and open your eyes as you encounter others.
Thinking of someone who needs to hear these words today? Want to invite someone to do the challenge with you? I’d love for you to share this post wherever it might be helpful. And I’d love to hear about your experience; please leave a comment and share it with me.
